Rand Paul, Libertarianism, Slippery Slopes and 24/7 Victimhood

Rand Paul and the Perils of Textbook Libertarianism
NYTimes.com
LIBERTARIANISM as slippery slope: The challenge of libertarianism and economic theories such as the ‘Austrian School‘ of Hayek and von Mises is that there is an assumption that people are rational and will act most of the time in their own best interest; unfortunately humans are incredibly tribal and tend to adopt tribal group preferences whereever/whenever there is a not an economic surplus. Rand Paul does not have to be racist for his economic beliefs to predictably result in racism. However … victimhood theory is even worse — and is seldom right about cause and effect: liberal victimhood silliness and conservative victimhood silliness.

I can understand Mr. Paul’s logic. I can’t understand the stupidity of painting a bull’s eye on himself with this subject. Taking this position publically on the Civil Rights Act of 1964 is like kryptonike to Superman.

Mr. Paul needs a handler before he opens his mouth.

I agree with M-H. While I understand his technical argument, his instincts were “way off” regarding his answer. He should stay out lf the limelight and focus on his campaign in TN. He’s not ready for prime time.
